The Countdown Is Over – And So Now, This

And we’ve finally reached January 31st and the end of the countdown that has been going on for quite awhile now so it is finally time to make some announcements.

Eva Launch!

Oh, that’s not quite right. That would be cool, but unfortunately budget cuts have meant that the Eva program just isn’t getting off the ground (that was a joke).

Let’s try again.

Book Launch!

Thoughts on Anime

The first, and most significant reason for the countdown, is that I have compiled some of my posts from last year into an ebook that is now available for purchase. At the moment it is only available from here for $3.99 however hopefully if I can sort out a few final formatting issues it will also be available from some more standard online book sellers – if that happens I will link those in. (And some good news on that front, just waiting on a final approval.)

And while yes, the content in the book is all available on the site already, this is an opportunity to support the blog in a one off manner rather than an ongoing subscription (such as patreon). However, if you are a patron already, or if you sign up to become a patron, you will get access to a PDF copy of this on request as a thank you for your ongoing support for the blog.

Series reviews from 2017 that appear in the book are as follows (some of these have yet to be published on the blog if they are from the Autumn anime season):

  1. ACCA: 13 Territory Inspection Dept.
  2. Akashic Records of a Bastard Magical Instructor
  3. Anime-Gataris
  4. Attack on Titan Season 2
  5. Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga
  6. Chain Chronicle: The Light Of Haecceitas
  7. Chronos Ruler
  8. Code Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~
  9. Dies Irae
  10. elDLIVE
  11. Gamers
  12. Girls’ Last Tour
  13. Granblue Fantasy the Animation
  14. Grimoire of Zero
  15. Hand Shakers
  16. Hitorijime My Hero
  17. In Another World With My Smartphone
  18. Juni Taisen: Zodiac War
  19. Just Because
  20. KADO: The Right Answer
  21. Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu
  22. King’s Game
  23. Knight’s and Magic
  24. Land of the Lustrous
  25. Made in Abyss
  26. My Hero Academia Season 2
  27. Natsume Yuujinchou Roku
  28. Princess Principal
  29. Recovery of an MMO Junkie
  30. Sagrada Reset
  31. Tales of Zestiria the X Season 2
  32. The Eccentric Family Season 2
  33. The Royal Tutor
  34. UQ Holder!
  35. Vatican Miracle Examiner
  36. WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?

In addition to the series reviews, the book contains reviews of older series that were published on the blog during 2017, and some of the features and top 5 lists from 2017. It comes in at just over 120,000 words and posts have been edited from the blog form so some of the more glaring typos that slipped through have been addressed (there’s probably some I have missed though).

Note: There are no images included in the book.

The other bit of news is I’ve been reviewing the reward tiers for my patron site. There are now more tier levels and the rewards are a little clearer and less nebulous. While I find it kind of awkward to ask people to pay for content, as I would like the blog to become something more than a hobby I am going to keep working with patrons and followers to find a good balance here.

Please take a moment to review the reward tiers and to consider supporting my blog in 2018. While I will admit I am still learning things and I still make mistakes, I’m working hard at improving quality and to ensure that content is produced regularly for the blog.

And that’s where we are up to now that the count down is over. Now we just need to count down to the blog’s second anniversary (May 1). In the meantime, I want to thank all of my readers as you are the reason I want to keep creating content and to create better content. Also, if you have a suggestion for a reward that I could offer my patrons, I am very open to those so contact me or send me a DM on Twitter.

Thanks for reading.

Karandi James

Another way you can support the content here is by buying a copy of ‘Thoughts on Anime 2017‘ as an ebook. It contains a selection of reviews, features and top 5 lists from 2017 and while the content is available free on the site, this is a great way to give a one off show of support for the blog. It is available for $3.99.

  1. To be fair, even the original Eva had troubles with the budget, so you are (not) alone on that one. (I love Eva too much, I couldn’t help myself)

As for the book, I love the idea! I’m glad you’re the first person I know to try this out, as I’m sure you’ve done a fantastic job with it (as always). Looking forward to, shall I say, “picking it up!?” Haha, congrats!

    1. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out in the end. I don’t think I realised how much work was going to be involved in putting it together when I first came up with the idea though.

  2. Congrats and like many others I didn’t expect this either! This is a pretty nice idea to do and I think a lot of people would appreciate reading your reviews in one complied place 🙂

    1. Honestly, not much different given it is just a compilation of my posts. I did get to have a very good reflection of what I posted last year though while putting this together and hopefully that helps me lift my game a bit this year.
Regardless of how this does in sales I’m probably going to put together one at the start of next year because it is a nice record of what I’ve been doing and as I said, it has made a little more critical of what I’m writing.

  3. Reblogged this on I drink and watch anime and commented:
It seems I’m on a roll of reblogging posts from all my favorite bloggers but it’s their fault: the keep coming up with fantastic posts! I have been staring at Karandi’s countdown clock for months now and I’m so excited the time is finally here! Seriously, go read the whole thing guys. This is a great idea and a really fun way to support a fellow blogger not to mention just get a great treat for yourselves at the same time! I have been making my way through my copy and it’s a really great read (even though we don’t always agree…)

  4. Oh wow! So cool, I love the idea and everything. I’m going to mark this and consider picking it up a little bit later. That Hell Girl purchase did a number on me.

  5. Hmmmmm…no Eva launch? Call me disappointed (*presses the unfollow button🤣🤣😂😂).
    Just kidding of course😀
Wow this is seriously amazing news. Your own E-book! A heartfelt congratualtions! As you know I absolutely love your site. When I get home I will try and see if I can purchase it 😀(currently at work). But really: awesome news: this was worth a countdown! 😀😀

    1. Thank you Raistlin. I’ll try for the Eva Launch next year but somehow suspect it won’t happen.
I would really appreciate it if you did buy one (if you can’t buy it from the current location hopefully a few more options will open up within a couple of weeks).

      1. Haha😂 Maybe all anime bloggers should band together and start raising money for that Eva Launch. We should be able to do that 😀
I will look into it as soon as I come home: and of course then I will let you know if I managed it 😉

    2. And…Update: just came home. First thing as promised which I did was checking if I could buy it: and it was available on I-tunes/books 😊 Woohoo🎉🎉🎉 So….needless to ssympatheticsympathetic I bought it. And may I say it: holy moly: that page count! 😮😮😮😮 Awesome stuff, going to do a little promoting now on Twitter 😊😊

      1. That’s why I was so shocked when I realised how much I wrote last year. I was trying to decide what to include in this and realised I’d barely put in a fifth of what appeared on the blog. I have no idea when I wrote all of that but clearly I am having fun doing it.

        1. Haha: you are not only having fun: you are having fun and doing a great job at the same time 😊😊
It truly amazes me how you manage to achieve all of this. I’m really being honest here by saying that I am currently really having a time crisis. Work is incredibly busy for me at the moment. And I really have trouble keeping up with reading all posts and replying to comments too (as much as I love doing that, don’t get me wrong 😊) Luckily I have sunday and monday off from work, so hopefully I can get a lot of work done on my blog then 😊😊

          1. Sorry work is so busy. This week got a little better for me after the last two weeks went haywire but I was still at work for eleven hours yesterday.
Pretty much, the blog is what keeps me happy at this point and getting online once I get home is definitely something I look forward to.

          2. It’s okay, but thank you 😊 I totally agree. It’s the thing I really love doing a lot as well. But this week, having only late shifts…I almost don’t have time to watch things…which is kind of annoying…so that’s why: looking forward to my two days off 😊😊

  6. This is really awesome Karandi! I wasn’t expecting a book and it’s a great idea! XD congratulations on the book! I hope many people buy it! I’ll be buying it (not right because money) but in a month or 2 xP again, congrats!

    1. Glad you like the idea (was worried people would think it super lame). Also I appreciate the thought but I understand a lot of my followers aren’t exactly free to spend money which is why I was hoping this might be a nice option for those that want to support the blog but can’t commit to being a patron. I tried to keep the cost as low as I could.

  7. I have to admit that in all the months wondering what your countdown might be, I didn’t imagine it being a book. Colour me surprised! Congratulations on the launch, what an excellent idea.

Funnily enough, we’ve actually been planning to release a poetry collection. Maybe we should all form our own anime book publishing company 🙂

    1. I kind of wanted to get all of the little bits and pieces in place before the launch but unfortunately haven’t quite gotten final approval for the mainstream ebook sellers (close now). Still, hopefully people like the end result.
A poetry collection sounds great. Let me know how that is going.
