Review:
I mentioned in my review of part 2 of this 3 part whatever it is (prequel maybe to the upcoming series) but this is a really stupid way to release something. The first part came out September last year and while I do believe I have a great memory, even I’m going to forget things over that span of time. So I started this part and then had to promptly stop the video and go watch the end of part 2 again because I couldn’t remember what had happened there.
Anyway, my comments from parts 1 and 2 remain. This is beautiful to watch and Chise’s story is adorable. It is a pretty standard story with the orphan girl who can see unusual things so is an outcast seeking refuge in the library and getting caught up in things, and the delivery is very slow and deliberate, but there’s so much respect being paid to the characters and the world that every minute of watching is a joy.
Really, this was a nice taste tester as I hadn’t heard of this before and there is the series about to start next season (which hopefully I’ll be able to watch) but that’s about all it has been. As fun and adorable as watching it has been, it is like we just got a tiny glimpse of a much larger world and story. By itself, it does tell a story, and it is an emotional one, but it really doesn’t feel like enough on its own. Still, worth checking out particularly if you are interested in the series.
Thanks for reading.

fyi the release of each episode in the OVA coincides with the release of a volume of the manga.
but yeah, it was nice to see this extra story about chise’s childhood. looking forward to the full series.
I went to the Anime Movie Night where they debuted the first 3 episodes of the anime, and good heavens, is it awesome. I can’t wait for this show to officially release.
Okay, I’m starting to get jealous of everyone who got to watch that. Still, not long now before the series comes out.
I was not at all interested in this series… as per usual, when I saw that it was “supernatural” I pointed my wife at it and promptly forgot about it. But she seemed enthusiastic and started reading the manga, and of course there was quite a bit of buzz…
So I checked it out over the weekend, and now I’m a convert and looking forward to the main series.
Glad you enjoyed it and looking forward to your thoughts on the main series.
Well, I read the manga and I love it. Hopefully the anime won’t be a disappointment.
There’s a lot of people in the read the manga camp who are looking forward to this. Given how long it has been coming I was kind of tempted to check the manga out but ultimately avoided it because I don’t want to watch the series and compare. I want to just hopefully enjoy the series.
True XD . Hopefully I can control my brain not to compare but watch the series as it is.
Sounds interesting! What’s this one about? Sorry that I never catch your reviews when the first one comes out…that’s why i’m always a little confused, but intrigued too!
That’s okay. New season will start soon so all new shows to begin.
This was a thre part prequel (side story? Something?) to a series that is going to start next season. I wasn’t entirely sure about its relationship to the upcoming series but it has the same characters and tells a stand alone story.
It was a really sweet and emotional fantasy that seemed to have a very clear focus on the main character and a childhood memory of her finding a library in the forest when she really didn’t have anywhere else to use as a refuge because everyone either feared her or made fun of her because she could see things.
I really enjoyed it, other than the fact that it was months between the first part and the third coming out but now all three are up on Crunchyroll. And I’m really looking forward to seeing the actual series start next month.
Aw that does sound like a great story! Sometimes I look those stories that aren’t too intense, but they just make you smile or make you feel something.
Thank you for explaining too! 🙂
I adore this show so far. Maybe it’s because I tend to binge anime but I actually enjoyed the staggered but not too spaced out rollout. It really served to build up my anticipation and this is the most excited I’ve been about a new release in recent history
In terms of keeping the title in our minds, the staggered rollout worked. In terms of my getting into the story though, I had to rewatch previous entries to continue on, which given it was good wasn’t a problem, but if it hadn’t been as interesting I’d have just moved on.
I saw Crunchyroll’s movie night preview in theaters with the first 3 episodes and I will say this this show doesn’t disappoint. I have enjoyed these other episodes as well, though I agree they should have released all 3 at once instead of the way they did. I didn’t even know this episode was out until I stumbled upon it one night.
Between the movie night and this story line, I am really optimistic about this series. These stories have been entertaining and incredibly emotional but emotional in a good way.
Hopefully the series doesn’t fall flat after all this build up. Really looking forward to the series.
23 more days until we get a full 24 episode series! I can’t wait!!!
I’m also really looking forward to it. Hopefully it will be equally pleasant to watch.
