Taishou Otome Fairytale decides to reward Tamahiko’s determination, rather than kicking him while he is down for once, and after his father ignores repeated requests to allow him to return to school the uncle who offered Tamako a pathway toward her future also extend a supportive hand to Tamahiko. It was nice not only seeing Tamahiko ask for help but his genuine gratitude and acceptance when someone from his fairly cold family reached out to him.
Now if a meteor could just land on his father’s head.

Taishou Otome Fairytale always mixes the bitter with sweet.
Tamahiko’s return to formal education after his year or so of living as though he was dead isn’t without difficulty. Sure he’s done the study to catch up on missed information but the challenges of day to day school, including interactions with peers and changing clothes, all make it a little overwhelming and hard to deal with.
For Tamahiko who only really started interacting with anyone outside of Yuzuki again in episode 7 of Taishou Otome Fairytale when he began tutoring the local kids this is kind of a bridge too far.

Harder also when another new student joined the class at the same time who isn’t just confident in his introduction, he’s the twin brother of a celebrity.
Yeah, Taishou Otome Fairytale has thrown in another girl and this one is the singer that Yuzuki and most of the locals are a little obsessed with. For some reason she put on a show at the local train station and they all went to watch at the start of the episode. By episode end the brother brings her around to the house so successful introduction of yet another girl into this mix.
On that note, I wasn’t particularly sold on her music at the start though I guess given the era any entertainment should be appreciated.

But while we’re talking about other girls, let’s talk about Yuzuki’s shining moment this episode. Sure she’s supportive of Tamahiko and listens as he tells her about his day and serves tea to his guest, but honestly, her best moment comes when Ryou turns up at the house for whatever reason and Yuzuki actually acts genuinely frustrated at her being there.
Finally it seems like Yuzuki is comfortable enough to actually express herself and not just be the happy little wife who politely complies with everything going on around her. That was kind of a nice change of pace for Taishou Otome Fairytale.
While I don’t need Yuzuki to become some overconfident cow who tells people off just for breathing, it is nice that she can express her own frustrations and annoyances without feeling like she’s someone letting down her image of being the perfect Shima bride.

I kind of hope Taishou Otome Faiytale continues to let Yuzuki relax and be herself. I also hope that the friendship Tamahiko seems to be striking up with Hikaru ends up being genuine because Tamahiko still has a long way to go to get back to being in the world.
Actually what I really want by the end of this series, and I doubt there’s enough episodes to get that far, but what I really want is Tamahiko to confront his father and point out what an unbelievable jerk he has been through all of this.
Then again, until Tamahiko can support himself and Yuzuki, he’s unlikely to rock the boat and upset the person who could technically turn them both out of the house they are living in considering technically Tamahiko was declared dead.

I’m not sure what Kotori’s role will be in the next episode but I’m low-key looking forward to more from this series. Taishou Otome Fairytale hasn’t been amazing, but it has been consistent, and sometimes that is enough.
