In the face of fear and the unreasonable forces of love, there really isn’t any rhyme or reason. During episodes 6 and 7 of Bloom Into You, all of our characters are struggling with keeping secrets from one another, holding back words that they believe should not or cannot be said, and also dealing with other characters who act in a way that runs contrary to their expectations. It all creates an easy kind of drama that is all to familiar for anyone who has ever second guessed themselves, made an assumption that turned out to be wrong, or just sat on the fence, indecisive and unable to move…

One thing I am definitely going to have to give Bloom Into You credit for is that it is creating an authentic feeling school experience. It isn’t drama every minute but nor is it just one thing at a time. As the student council takes a break for exams, Yuu is asked by a friend to read a manuscript, she’s seeking someone to study with, and the lives of the characters around the main pair seem to continue at their own pace with their own issues and ideas that occasionally bring them into contact with either Yuu or Nanami…

I wonder if the visual metaphors of flowers and butterflies are actually a sign of the fleeting and short lived nature of romance, or is that just the cynic in me coming out to take the sweetness out of imagery that is fairly solid and not too in my face. Whichever way, the ongoing use of flowers in this show gives it consistency and I’m certain that someone will be busily looking into what each of the flowers mean and how they contribute to a greater narrative…

There’s something fairly compelling about the way this story is put together. While the story itself hasn’t been amazing (though it hasn’t been poorly done either) it is in the small details and the delivery that this anime continues to excel and hopefully the quality of both of these can continue throughout the season. Yuu and Touko continue to be interesting enough leads though I don’t find either one individually particularly compelling…
