Somali and the Forest Spirit is so far exactly what you would expect from an adventure slice of life story about an unlikely father and daughter duo travelling. It's sweet and very pretty but hasn't really got a massive hook unless you are really into slice of life.
Hataage! Kemono Michi is another isekai story about a Japanese person being summoned as a hero into a fantasy world. The gimmick this time is that he's a pro-wrestler who loves animals and upon being summoned he drops the Princess on her head and runs away from the castle. Despite being a summoned hero, Genzo's grand plan includes capturing demon beasts and using them to open a pet shop. It is a silly show that doesn't take itself seriously and by and large was fun enough even if it is lacking in areas.
This pair of episodes of Special 7 deals with Belle's kidnapping and then launches us into full on backstory mode as the group are tasked with transporting a terrorist turned witness who just happens to be responsible for the mess at the airport that seems to link all our character's tragic backstories. Of course we're left on a cliffhanger so I guess I'll find out what happens next when I finally get to the next episode.
Well that's a cliff-hanger finish for you. Admittedly, the match is done and we can see the growth of some characters. Still, there's a lot left open by this final episode of Stars Align. While there's rumour that the director wants the series to return, without confirmation we'll probably have to accept that this is it for now.
Ultimate moves and goddesses breaking the rules, this would be an almost epic hero versus demon lord showdown except that with the comedic build up to this point it just doesn't quite feel earned. Not to mention, even mid-crisis the story can't resist throwing in some slap stick. Still, Cautious Hero gives us a pretty solid ending with episode 12.
It's another story of a Japanese teen getting isekai'd to a fantasy world only, at the request of the teen she's going to be perfectly average in every-way... Just a shame she forgot to ask god to be an average human. This one is a charming romp but doesn't have a lot of substance to it. However, if cute girls doing adventurous things in a fantasy land is in any way appealing, this will be worth the look. Read the full review and I'd love to know what you thought of 'Didn't I Say To Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life'.
The season has ended though apparently not really because there's a second cour coming sometime in 2020. That said they did resolve some of the problems Main had in the final three episodes of Ascendance of a Bookworm.
Seiya may have met his match and the stakes actually exist for once. Cautious Hero manages to be both completely ridiculous and fairly tense simultaneously in episode 10 and then hits us with an exposition dump to somehow make us worry about the outcome in the final episode. It isn't great writing but its still kind of working.
Time for the Hero vs the Demon Lord army and as the battle takes place in the ring the usual comedic antics take place everywhere else. Realistically, Kemono Michi is pretty average but it still makes sure you have fun while watching.
The season final ends more or less where I finished reading the books so while it feels like there is more journey to come, I kind of like where this decided to stop. Episode 12 of Didn't I Say To Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life continues to be average entertainment, but entertaining nonetheless.
