Yuri on Ice begins when Yuri has been having a losing streak with ice skating and has returned to his home town.
Yuri on Ice Episode 1 Review:
As much as I have always loved watching ice skating (one of the few sports I enjoy watching) I wasn’t really all that excited about an anime doing ice skating. That said, having read copious highly positive reviews, I went into Yuri on Ice. Now I want to watch an ice skating anime.
That said, it isn’t really the skating that hooked me this episode, though that was certainly beautiful compared to what I thought we’d end up with (visions of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask from 1990’s Sailor Moon pretending to ice skate still haunt). No, I was definitely interested in the characters and while we don’t learn much about them this episode I loved Yuri’s homecoming and starting to get a feel for the town and his family. The music was also pretty impressive.
While I don’t know that I’m going to be hooked for a whole season, this first episode was most definitely the most impressive for any of the new shows this season that I’ve watched. And yes, I am going to ignore the multiple exclamation points mid episode title.
Yuri on Ice is available on Crunchyroll.
Thank-you for reading 100 Word Anime.
