Lutz continues to shine in Ascendance of a Bookworm and he finally got Main to feel vaguely like someone you could be a little sympathetic for. Also, their career as merchants seems to be well on track so all things considered there's little to complain about in the latest episodes of Ascendance of a Bookworm.
Three cheers for Lutz who is probably getting my vote for best supporting character ever. Oh yeah and Main's quest for paper continues.
We almost had an episode where Main was a decent character which made it a nice slice of life with a bit of an isekai twist. Then she nearly sulked herself to death quite literally and I realise why I'm probably never going to like this character.
While Main is still unbearably smug in small intervals, the rest of the time she's settled in to actually listening to those around her and has built some real connections with her family. The MVP though is definitely Lutz.
The first half of this episode of Bookworm more or less confirmed that I wasn't really feeling it and then it had to go and make Main do something nice in the second half. While I still have my doubts, Ascendance of a Bookworm is going to stay on my watch list for now.
Episode 2 of Ascendance of a Bookworm is as underwhelming as the first. While that's not a huge surprise, what I'm finding more of a surprise is how close to dropping this I am. I'll give it a third episode but honestly I'm not sold on Main and her quest to find or make a book.
If I actually scored anime this one would get points for being a story about a bookworm and then lose quite a few for being incredibly dull in its first episode. While I'll give it some more time, the slice of life tag and the general nothingness going on in this first episode aren't exactly screaming that I should keep going.
