Space Patrol Luluco – Catch Up

So I picked this up on a Twitter recommendation.

I actually didn’t mind the humour in this and found it colourful and interesting but ultimately it isn’t my kind of series. I nearly gave it away two episodes in but then Alpha Omega Nova (love the naming sense by the way) gave Luluco some advice that was cheesy as hell but kind of hit the spot for me.

Luluco: “So I should stay normal?”

Nova: “No, stay wonderful.”

If I misquoted that, oops. But that line alone kept me watching and I am glad I did. Luluco is a fun ride and the references to other anime are all well done and interesting. The short episode length is definitely a point in favour of the series because anymore of this would have been too much.

If you haven’t checked this one out you should for a bit of fun. I’m not going for a rewatch and this certainly isn’t making the list of favourite anime or best anime, but it is cute and fun and a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

Space Patrol Luluco is available on Crunchyroll.

  1. I think it’s probably a tough series to get behind without being a Trigger fan, as it’s so meta and intertextual. I thought it’s barmy blend of humour and first love allegory was cute, fun and frenetic but nothing electrifying.

  2. I really enjoyed this show. I thought it was crazy and funny and just a great time. I also loved the callbacks to other Trigger productions, especially the Little Witch Academia episode.
