Fall/Autumn has been a weird anime season. Not because of the anime. That’s been perfectly normal with plenty of solid shows, some middling ones, and some that have been iffy to dodgy. No, the community has been a bit weird largely because so many of us didn’t really get to watch much this season or were a little distracted by life. That really showed in the vote with this being the lowest number of votes for a seasonal favourite for a long time on the blog. Still, we do have a winner.

The only thing surprising here is how low My Hero Academia ended up. Then again, the season hasn’t got off to a great start and it isn’t finished yet. I’ll be interested to see where it is at the end of next season.

While the season end might have been a bit of a fizzle, this was fairly entertaining to watch and at least felt like it had its own tone and story to tell. I’m looking forward to its return in 2020.

Given the acclaim of the first two seasons I wasn’t surprised to see this one jump into the top 3. That said, the whole franchise is still on my to be watched list and I just haven’t gotten to it yet so I don’t have a lot else to say.
15 Votes – Vinland Saga
Another anime I can’t yet access but it is on my watch list. The buzz around this one has been strong since it began so I was unsurprised to see it hold strong in the top 3 in the poll.
BEST OF THE SEASON
17 Votes – Dr Stone
Dr Stone was definitely a slow burn in the beginning but as the poll shows, patience was rewarded this time around as the second cour of the anime really grabbed viewers. I’m not a big fan of telling people stuff gets better so they should keep watching it, but in the case of Dr Stone I really am glad I stuck around and I’m thrilled that this topped the reader poll and made it into the final vote.

Nice, I’m glad to see Dr. Stone make it to the top! That series was way better than I had expected and I looked forward to each episode. I’ve been watching with the Dub so I’ve still got a few more left, but it’s really top notch
It did end up a lot better than I initially expected and the second half really took off. It will be interesting to see which of these anime make it to the top.

The number of votes this time round was pretty low so I am happy it got a few votes.
You didn’t miss much by skipping the 2nd cour of Koto ono Tomare. I kinda wish I had, and kinda glad I didn’t.
I was torn on that. I didn’t hate the first part but I also wasn’t compelled to keep watching.
I really enjoyed the second cour, I liked the first cour, but agreed with Karandi’s comments that the conflict was often contrived, but I thought that the second cour focussed a lot more on the music, the competitions and the development of the characters as musicians and their relationships. The conflicts that were there semed much more organic to me. The advisor became far less annoying and the new teacher was a good addition and linked the story back to Hozuki’s mother and the koto school. The other two schools became more interesting. The second last episode where they did their final performance was great, but then I do like koto music. Towards the end, they let the music speak by itself a lot more, which was great.

Dr. Stone did pick up in the second half and I enjoyed it for the most part but it still doesn’t have anything on Vinland Saga. Vinland all the way for me!
Vinland has been well spoken of. Hopefully it will come out on something I access eventually so I get to see it.
