Ms Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles Episode 1: Well The Title Is Not Misleading

Overview:

Koizumi is a new student at school that Yuu seems somewhat infatuated with. By chance Yuu spots Koizumi in line at a ramen shop and decides to follow her in.

Review:

I’ve never been a big fan of the lost puppy type character that just keeps bouncing back after repeatedly getting kicked and that was more or less the experience of watching Yuu trying to befriend Koizumi.

Then the show spends a lot of time on the food. Like a lot of time. In one episode we get at least three different ramen dishes served and explained, which while educational isn’t exactly thrilling viewing unless you were in the mood for a lesson in ramen in which case it is probably excellent.

And then we get a lot of girls eating ramen with lots of slurps and other accompanying noises and while it doesn’t quite go into the foodgasm territory of Food Wars there’s definitely an after glow when they are done with the eating.

I might try a second episode of this, but to be honest I’m pretty sure that I’m going to move this to the tried and dropped pile very quickly. I didn’t much like the character interactions and there doesn’t appear to be a plot larger than try different kinds of ramen and maybe make a friend. So for me there just isn’t a lot of appeal here.

  1. I know we need a POV character… but to have her be the *main* character, while the titular character is pushed to the background? That was a really odd choice.

    1. Probably a necessary one given Koizumi’s personality though. Still, I think I’d have enjoyed this show more if a girl had decided she liked ramen and started frequenting a shop where one of the cooks took the time to explain the different types of ramen to her. That would still teach us all about ramen and get rid of the annoying girl trying to make friends with someone who clearly isn’t interested. Then again, it would be a totally different show so maybe I’ll just pass on this in the end.

  2. i agree that there wasnt a lot going on in this adaptation. i focused in on how generic and repetitive the bgm was, which ended up annoying me. personally, i had a lot more fun reading the manga, where i could just focus in on the ramen explanations (all i really care about anyway)

  3. I’m the same! I tried it on a whim but all of the ramen knowledge just went over my head and I couldn’t appreciate any of it. I think a show just about ramen will get old after the first couple of episodes but I might give the second episode a go!

  4. As kawaiipaperpandas mentioned, as someone who loves ramen, I’d love to know more about it. But it sounds like the characters would drive me batty, lol. I

  5. Lol, well this sounds very interesting 😂😂I might want to give this a go at some point if I ever end up losing my appetite for some reason. But I highly doubt that ever happening 😊😊

    1. I had a lot of fun with ramen when I was in Japan because it was always different in each place but always delicious. That said, I’m still not sure I’m up for watching an anime entirely about eating ramen so I’ll see if the next episode introduces something else.
