There’s going to be a somewhat rambling reminiscence prior to a timeline of posts from the month so feel free to skip to the links.
January 2021 marked my return to my blog after a somewhat unexpected and significantly longer than desired break. Admittedly, 2020 was a great year for me to take stock of my various commitments and to try to figure out how I was going to balance things in my life a little more to look after myself given I’m prone to just throwing my all into whatever I do and ultimately working until collapse.
I’m returning now confident (mostly) that I’m ready to take a more measured approach to most things whether it is my IRL job or the blog or my new health kick and to ensure that all of these things are sustainable for me and that I’m still able to have time for family, friends and just time for me. I know, trying to have my cake and eat it too given this wonderfully balanced bliss I’ve actually managed in January will most definitely all fall down once work gets busier or I let myself just pick up a couple more seasonal shows (just one more, really). Already, since returning to the blog I’ve found myself itching to write a list post or first impressions or something and as I schedule reviews through to the end of February I wonder how bad would it be if I just posted them now?

However, my one resolution for 2021 was self-control and taking things one step at a time rather than diving in. I do want to add a little more to my blog activity as the year goes on but I think for February I’m going to maintain the current schedule of one review, one article, and one round up post of seasonal shows each week as that seems very doable right now.
2020 for me was a year that, while trying to deal with a number of situations including some ongoing health dramas, was one that brought me back to my roots in a lot of ways. I spent a lot of time rewatching television I’d enjoyed as a teenager and rewatching anime series that I was familiar and comfortable with. It is amazing how when things go wrong around me I reach for the old paper backs on my shelf that have accompanied me through most of my life and have been read so often the paper is soft and yellow and the spines are now unreadable.
The end result is that 2021 has left me motivated to try new things and to get back out into the world. While retreating into a cave seemed like a great plan for awhile eventually you have to get back out there.
At least, that’s how I’m feeling at the moment.
Finally, I just want to thank all my readers who have made me feel so welcomed back into the community. I was really nervous after being away so long but everyone has just made me feel really glad that I am a part of this community.
