Welcome back to another week of In Case You Missed It. There were some fantastic posts to be found last week, thought the Ichigo/Darling in the Franxx mess was certainly a well covered topic. Below are some of the posts that caught my eye last week.
Also, the anniversary celebration will start tomorrow, so be sure to check out the posts during the week. The schedule for the anniversary posts can be found here. I hope you join me for a week celebrating the blog.
Fuelled by Smiling attempts to defend the actions of the yokai in GeGeGe No Kitaro episode 3 this week. I must admit, I’m liking their take on reviewing this anime episode by episode launching a defence for the villains, even if in most cases it is a fairly lost cause. Still, it does highlight some of the themes and ideas of the show and certainly makes for a different kind of read. If you are watching the anime, be sure to check out these reviews.
The Tiny World of an Anime Amateur is defending Ichigo from Darling in the Franxx, seems like there are a lot of defence posts this week. There’s no denying that Ichigo’s recent actions have earned her a lot of criticism from viewers so it was nice to see someone try to look at her perspective. I still think Ichigo’s a little crazy, but that’s just my view at the moment. For a different perspective, check out this post.
Miandro’s Side also looks at Darling in the Franxx, though it takes a more holistic view of the anime up until now. There are spoilers to be found here but at over 1500 words there was bound to be a few in there. Still, a nicely thought out piece and one of the genuinely positive posts I’ve come across regarding this anime recently.
Standing On My Neck reviews Violet Evergarden, which I still need to get around to watch, and while there are some points noted against the anime, this is a fairly positive review and a reflection on how viewers perceive different studios. Certainly an interesting read regardless of your own thoughts on the anime or whether you’ve watched it or intend to watch it.
A Nerdy Perspective reviews Chobits. While this is an older anime, it is one that comes up time and again, and if you haven’t watched it, it is worth considering though won’t be for everyone. This review is a great read and might just get you interested.
For something to make you smile try Shokamoka’s Blog of Wonders where they provide some fun examples of the Cicada Block Meme. Well worth checking out and you may just find one of your favourite characters in an interesting situation.
The Zodiac Room is sharing their top 10 Pokemon Battle Themes. I’m not the biggest Pokemon fan but I love lists and this one includes each of the songs in question and some great explanations for why it was picked. Fans of the franchise should check it out.
Pick of the Week
If you haven’t been following along with Weekend Otaku as he rewtaches and writes about Your Lie in April, you need to head here and check out all of his “Your Theme in April” posts. Last year he reviewed each episode of Your Lie in April, but this year he is looking at the theme constructed in each episode and taking a very indepth look at the series. There’s also a quiz to play along with in each post. Hopefully you’ve already come across this series, but if not, the link will take you to the tag so you can catch up on every post and I strongly recommend it.
This week inquiring minds looked at what makes me interested in an anime. The feature looked at brand names on anime and whether that influences our viewing, and my top 5 looked at villains with inhuman characteristics.
As always, links to my episode reviews can be found in my weekly overview post.
And that was my week, in case you missed it.
Thanks for reading.
