In Case You Missed It

No dead-weight here, just some really amazing posts that I came across this week. Actually, I had trouble deciding what my pick of the week would be because there were a number of posts that I just loved reading. As always, if you’ve come across a post that you would like to see given a shout out to, feel free to add the link in the comments below, otherwise this is my weekly round up of posts I came across while travelling through the ani-blogging community.

And just something to look forward to: Irina and I have been cooking up a collaboration series of posts that will come out starting March 4 (all going well).

Irina has a brilliant post (that would have been my pick of the week except that I really liked Remy’s post) on the joys and struggles of episodic reviews. Given the sheer number of likes and comments this post already has, I’m certain a lot of you have already come across it however if you missed it and either write episode reviews or have been thinking about episode reviews, it is well worth checking out. Also worth checking out for the comments section where a lot of bloggers have shared their views and experiences.

If you are watching Sanrio Boys and want some amusement from it, you should check out Irina’s post on Episode 7 as she reshapes events so that the Class President is a nefarious cult leader. It was such a fun post to read even if it was that little bit surreal.

Lethargic Ramblings gives us their mid-season thoughts on literally everything that came out this Winter. It is an impressive overview post and a good chance to reflect on the season as it has been so far.

Ya Boy Jack on the AniWriter has a great post about the use of water in March Comes in Like a Lion. Most of you know, I’m completely in love with this anime so posts like this one are just fantastic to come across as it isn’t reviewing the show but rather looking at one of the many elements that makes it such a powerful viewing experience.

A Piece of Anime has a review of epiosde 6 of Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens that kind of sums up really well why this anime is so engaging. I loved the episode and was fairly much gushing over it this week as well in my episode review. Anyway, if you are still on the fence about this show, you should check out this episode review.

Not anime but English Light Novels shared a list of their top ten light novel covers and it was kind of interesting. I haven’t read most of the books on the list (even if I’m reading the series I am just not that far along having only started reading light novels a few months ago), but it was kind of fun looking at the different cover designs. So, fun post to check out.

Elizabeth on Little Anime Blog has a great post about non-binary characters in anime. In this post she identifies some great non-binary characters as well as some more problematic ones, but discusses the importance of these characters and their continued presence in the medium. A nicely written post on a topic that is quite important to many.

Atelier Emily has an interesting post about The Melancholy of Dia that looks at Dia’s character within Land of the Lustrous, Dia’s transformation, and their influence on Phos and the other characters. It is a great post and for those wanting more Land of the Lustrous content a great read.

Matt in the Hat has a review of Angel Beatsย spoiler free and I really recommend checking it out. I loved the series and I felt the review kind of described the feeling of watching the show perfectly. It was a while ago when I reviewedย Angel Beatsย but this is one series worth coming back to and if you haven’t watched the anime yet, maybe this will convince you.

Jon Spencer reviews has his most recent ABC review out for Mob Psycho 100. Be sure to check out his thoughts on the show and what worked and what might not have. It’s a pretty positive review so if you are looking for reasons to try the show it is worth checking out.

Pick of the Week

Remy Fool discusses the power of Smartphones in the current season of anime and asks readers what they think of the Smartphone’s portrayal. It is one of those interesting posts that gets you thinking about something you may have been seeing but not really questioning, but it really hasn’t been very long since smartphones were used in anime. I’m sure we all remember fairly recent anime where characters were still using flip phones. Anyway, this is a topic I’m pretty interested in which is why a while back I looked at my top 5 uses of phones in anime. Anyway, Remy’s post was fantastic and timely and is well worth checking out if you missed it.

My Stuff

This week I gushed about Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens for my feature. I couldn’t help it, the show is amazing and I really do think people should give it a go because there hasn’t been anywhere near enough chatter about it considering how solid it is so far.

My top 5 took aim at anime archers and there were some great suggestions in the comments. And inquiring minds want to know examined what sort of anime I’d like to see made.

For reviews I tackled Land of the Lustrous, Dies Irae and the Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon Vol 2 Light Novel. As always, my episode reviews can be found on my weekly overview post.

That was my week in case you missed it.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Great round-up post as usual. Thanks for featuring my content, too. Smartphones in anime really is an interesting field to discuss and think about.

  2. Thanks for the highlight ๐Ÿ˜€ …I went a bit overboard again with the seasonal overview it seems…

Always good to catch up on everyone else’s posts through this round up.

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thank you for the feature! Iโ€™ll be looking forward to that collab between you and Irina, youโ€™ve got me curious what it could be.

  4. Thanks for the link. Just out of curiosity, have you seen Durarara? It’s really similar to Ramens in terms of style, so you might like it if you’re enjoying Ramens.

    1. I’ve tried Durarara a couple of times but couldn’t get into it. But I had the same issue with the first episode of Baccano before I finally just pushed through and ended up loving it. I will get back to Durarara eventually and give it another go. It seems like I should like it so I probably just need the time to watch it uninterrupted.

      1. It’s worth a shot, especially since the second season gives it a proper conclusion. The first couple of episode are a bit weaker than the rest, but it’s really good once it picks up.

    1. No problem. These posts are okay as long as I set them up at the start of the week and add the links as soon as I find the posts (saving regularly). It is when I’m travelling and don’t have multiple tabs open or I’m trying to read on my phone and I can’t do that when it becomes tricky trying to remember what I wanted to put in the post.

  5. Some really cool posts this week. I can understand you were having trouble making a choice ๐Ÿ˜Š I really liked Elizabeth’s post this week. It was just very different and well written. And of course Remy and Irina always deliver the goods, no matter what they write ๐Ÿ˜Š
(Oh….I have a new addiction…I already mentioned it on a couple of blogs ….but it has something to do with heroes and an academy ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚).

    1. There were some very good posts out there last week. I’m looking forward to find some great ones this week as well.
Will we hear your thoughts on your new addiction during your anime month or will you not be done?

      1. seems like every week posts are getting better and better ๐Ÿ˜€
Haha….well, I already said it over on Irina’s blog as well today: I really suck at keeping secrets. It’s actually one of the animes that got selected by the number generator. I will probably only review season 1 (But then again I have just reached episode 8 already…just can’t stop watching this…it’s sooooo good ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€).

        1. I kind of felt the same when I picked it up. It was already about 5 or 6 episodes into the season but there were so many positive reviews that I decided to try the first episode expected to pass on it pretty quick. I fell in love and binged every episode available and wanted more.

          1. Haha: it’s been the same for me. I have started with two things today because of that app I know also have access to the full content of VIKI (the Asian drama site) and started a Korean drama that I have really been wanting to see, and My Hero Accademia. Both are great…but I keep wanting to go back to My Hero Academia whenever I am watching an episode of Tunnel lol. The last time I had this feeling was the first time I watched Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan…it is truly awesome ๐Ÿ˜Š

      2. Ps…I got an app from the App Store that allows me to access the entire Crunchyroll library…so gues what: I also have access to March comes in like a lion ๐Ÿ˜€

        1. That is awesome news. Now it is just finding the time and hoping that it works for you. Still, that probably gave you access to a lot of the titles on your watchlist.

          1. Haha..yeah..not that I didn’t have enough to do already lol ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ But it really does work like a charm. I’m really thankful to Stitzel who gave me the instructions on where to find this and set it up ๐Ÿ˜Š
