In Case You Missed It

Another fine week blogging and it has been great to see so many people jumping into the new season. As always, I have gathered a collection of my favourite posts from the week below but if you’d like to give a shout out to a particular post, feel free to add a link in the comments. Preferably anime related (gaming, movies and books also okay).

From Slow Anime an excellent article about why Hollywood making an adaptation of Your Name is not a bad thing. Definitely worth checking out.

Keiko’s Anime Blog has another great episode review for My Hero Academia Season 2 Episode 25. As it is a review of the final episode of the season there are some spoilers here, but it is a great read.

The Xenodude also has a great review of My Hero Academia Season 2 Episode 25. A lot of the fun from this show has come from the discussions that follow on after each episode so it has been great checking out some of these thought provoking posts as season 2 comes to an end but leaves us waiting for season 3.

The Anime Accord has a list of 10 very cool swords in anime. As a sword remains my weapon of choice for seeing in fight sequences, I really enjoyed this list as it contained many weapons I was a fan of.

Black and Yellow Otaku Gamers has a fairly positive review of Classroom of the Elite, so if you are curious about that anime and haven’t checked it out yet, this is worth having a read through.

Miandro’s Side discusses Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale and how it fell short. As someone who from a fan point of view enjoyed the movie but from a common sense point of view realised it wasn’t that great a movie, I kind of enjoyed reading this post. There’s been a lot of SAO chatter recently with various announcements and I’m looking forward to future posts about it.

Crude Reviews has a blunt message for Star Trek Discovery. This is an excellent look at the pilot and why it doesn’t work from a narrative or character point of view. I also appreciated the comparison to Firefly. Worth reading if you are considering checking out this latest in the Star Trak franchise.

Kawaii Paper Pandas has their top ten horror/creepy/thriller anime in honour of it being October and leading in to Halloween. It is a great list of anime and I love some of the honourable mentions. Be sure to check it out if you are planning your watch list for Halloween.

Hachinana has a review of episode 1 of Juni Taisen: Zodiac War. They quite enjoyed the episode though note a few of the show’s short comings. I really enjoyed this review because it found the balance between enjoying the action and noting that there are some potential problems that could come up in the following episodes but is still hopeful that this series will be good. I wasn’t overly impressed by the episode but I do hope the show gets better so I enjoyed reading this.

The Glorio Blog also looked at Juni Taisen and gave us two different views on the first episode. Actually there was a lot of chatter in general about this first episode so I guess we’ll see in a few weeks if people are still talking about it.

Apprentice Mages Lounge takes a look at photography in Just Because and gives us some details about the cameras being used. This is quite a different post to others on the anime and quite informative if you have any interest in photography. Fun read.

Pick of the Week

I Drink and Watch Anime has done it again with an absolutely beautiful review of Season 4 of Natsume’s Book of Friends. They did such a superb job of capturing what makes this show so special and I just loved reading this review. Even having seen the show and already being in love with it, this review just made me want to go and watch Natsume all over again. Definitely worth the read and if you haven’t watched Natsume you really should check it out.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi! I really enjoyed reading this and was hoping you could please check my blog out? I have done 2 posts on anime and my latest one ‘Orange’ features the anime ‘Orange’, but I focus more on what the anime is saying, how I and others relate and what’s important and add that kind of personal touch by sharing (for those interested) how I and others relate. I don’t expect a shoutout and my blog is very new and has no constant, but I think and hope you might enjoy reading. Please check it out and leave a comment so I can know your opinion!

  2. Thanks for the shoutout!

That piece on Your Name is a good one, I saw it last week and caught myself nodding along with it. The problem here is less one of Hollywood and more one of toxic fandom.

    1. I was tossing up whether to try it or not over the weekend but I’m thinking from the reviews I’ve read so far it can wait. Really enjoyed seeing your reasoning though for why it didn’t work.

I'd love to know what you think.
