In Case You Missed It

This has been an odd week. I’ve been bouncing around locations and going from having no time for blogging to having hours to amuse myself with either anime or blogs (or both, why not). Then I naturally had to return home and back to work which means I’m back on my usual time managed schedule (not necessarily a bad thing). Of course, most people are prepping for the Autumn season or doing their final write ups for summer and it’s been great seeing what people watched through to the end and their reactions.

Then, of course, technology decided to be fun and the WordPress Reader decided not to be compatible anymore with my phone so that made it a little more difficult to run across and record some of the posts from last week. Glad to be home and have my computer again.

Below are a collection of posts I’ve run across in the last week that I thought were interesting. Feel free as always to add a link to a post you think is worth checking out (anime, manga, or gaming related preferably).

Over on The Mind of the Hybrid One they’ve shared their run down on shows from summer and spring as well as their rankings for the year. If you are still thinking about which shows you need to go back and pick up it’s worth checking out their thoughts.

Jill on Otaku Ramblings and Reviews hit day 12 of the 30 day anime challenge sharing her thoughts on the saddest anime scene. It’s been interesting seeing the different approaches people take to answering this one and I had to agree with this choice because it definitely hit me hard too when I watched it.

Marth’s Anime Blog reflects on episode 12 of Tales of Zestiria the X. I’ve kind of enjoyed following Marth’s posts on this series because he seems familiar with the source material but isn’t critiquing the show because of it, he tends to use his familiarity to pose some interesting questions about what the characters and plot are doing. If you’ve been watching the series or are considering it, it may be worth checking out some of his posts. The link goes to the category so you can check out which ever episode you like.

Kapodaco over on Criticism and Thoughts has a write up on Momokuri which was one of my surprise enjoyments this season (surprising because it really isn’t the kind of show I make it through the first episode of). Anyway, if you are considering watching it and are still undecided, this write up gives a pretty good break down without wandering into spoiler territory so is well worth a read.

This one may have been last week, but it was a post on Fujinsei listing 15 anime you should watch before you call yourself a sports anime fan. I liked reading the list because I just haven’t watched that much sports anime (and I’m unlikely to really dive in but I am starting to at least consider sports anime as watchable in the last year or so).

A post I’d really recommend reading to anyone who is even considering watching BL would be Kuro’s Guide to BL, Yaoi and Shounen Ai over on Two Happy Cats.. It is rare to read a post on this that isn’t 90% fan girl or 90% critical of the genre.  This post looks at what it is, a personal experience with it, and a few warnings about the genre that are frankly needed and aren’t condeming the genre as a whole.

Little Anime Blog has a nice list of Anime’s Best Cybernetic Beings. If you didn’t catch this one hop on over and check it out.

Over on The Hottest Sport for Nerdy Analysis there’s a fun article arguing that Deku is the best Shonen Jump Hero and it makes some good points and gets you thinking about all those other heroes.

Anyway, that’s all from me but feel free to share some other related links in the comments.

  1. I really feel as though we should start a similar piece, just because there’s so many excellence posts that deserve more attention.

  2. Thanks for the shout-out on our list, and mentioning some great blogs and posts besides – that’s this evening’s reading sorted!

Momokuri was an unexpected pleasure for us too, it’s such a fun and easy watch but balanced really well with unusual and complex perspectives on relationships. I admire anyone who can stick to those 30 day challenges like Jill’s been doing. We should try it out one day, it’d be a bit easier for us because we could take it in turns and do 15 each XD

    1. I enjoy reading the answers people give to the challenge but I just keep thinking I probably couldn’t decide on one answer anyway.

      1. Yeahhh, I could easily spend a day just making up my mind what to write about for each topic. Not even kidding.

  3. oh nice, thanks for mentioning my posts. i think the main reason im not so harsh on tales of zestiria is that it, despite its numerous flaws, still acts as a decent entry into the franchise and i want people to discover the games ive enjoyed so much.

  4. Thank you for the feature 🙂 I’m so glad you liked the post ~ I love your ‘in case you missed it’ posts, the posts are always so interesting and fun to read 🙂

  5. I literally just finished another Gay Shifter Romance book, opened my email and zoomed in on your link to Kuro’s Bl guide. The yaoi train never ends. Nice find, it was a pretty informative post!

  6. Your ‘In Case You Missed’ it post has been my go-to read for three weeks now. It’s too difficult to manually search all anime blogs to find random reads so this really helps narrow them down. And the selection this week’s awesome! Will go check some of them now. Thanks!

  7. Thank you very much for featuring my sports list. I appreciate it. And I’m going to check some of the other links here soon. Sounds interesting. Keep it up. Cheers!

    1. No problem. Hope you find some interesting posts and if you ever have a post you want mentioned, please let me know so I can check it out.
