In Case You Missed It 2019 #31

Can you believe it is September already? I sure can’t. This year is just vanishing and I do have to blame my in real life work for a lot of feeling like I’ve been running in circles and getting nowhere for the bulk of it (you know, except when I disappeared overseas for three weeks). Anyway, next week will mark the three-quarter mark for the Summer Anime Season and I’ll open my poll for the best of the season. As always it is busy but I still found some great posts from the community.

Hopefully you find something fun to read and as always if you have a post you’d like to give a shout out to send me a message via my contact or on Twitter.

Sakura Sunrise has an interesting post asking What Do The Evangelion Rebuilds Do Better? Now, I’m firmly in the camp that sticks with watching the series because I out right hated the films, but this was an interesting perspective to read that doesn’t deny some of the issues the films had but takes a look at what positives can be found within them. It’s a nice and thoughtful post and one fairly worth reading. I’m still going to stick with just watching the series though because I really did not like the movies.

Blerdy Otome shares their 10 favourite megane otome guys. This was such a great list even though I only recognised a handful of the characters. It was just fun to read with such clear enthusiasm for the content. Anyway, if you are looking for a fun list to read and have any interest in otome games this one is definitely for you.

Richard Wood talks about episode 21 of Demon Slayer, and yes he found Nezuko shrinking to be absolutely adorable. However I like how he really paid attention to the small character moments in the episode. If you are looking for a fun revisit of the episode, this one is a great post to check out.

Dominic on Little Anime Blog has an interesting post called The Post War Kids. This one muses about the impact of war on anime and art and literature in Japan and the importance of these forms of expression in a changing culture. This one is definitely thought provoking and a very worthwhile read.

Here is Lynn Sheridan’s review of Arifureta episode 7. While there seem to be a few reviewers kind of enjoying Arifureta, even actively trying to find positives with the show I’m struggling. So reading Lynn’s review at least made me feel like I wasn’t just judging it harshly because it butchered the source but because it genuinely makes no sense in how it is telling the story. Lynn’s review format does at least ensure that there’s an attempt at pointing out episode and character positives even when they are hard to find.

Tiger has a brief review of Golden Time which is a romance/drama/comedy anime that doesn’t get enough attention really. It isn’t a perfect viewing experience by any means but it does offer some interesting characters and interactions and is kind of fun. If you want to know a bit more about it, be sure to check out this post.

The Gaijin has a great post which is the first part of a mid-season review of Given. There’s spoilers here for people who haven’t watched the anime in terms of how the relationship between Ueno and Mafuyu is developing however if you’ve been watching Given or just don’t care about spoilers you will enjoy reading this post. There’s a real joy in reading something from someone who was incredibly moved by something. The joy comes through with nearly every word and just makes it a delight to read.
