In Case You Missed It 2019 #29

I cannot believe we are midway through August already. This year is just flying by and there’s so much still to do. I’ve been really enjoying the Summer anime and if you missed it, earlier this week I did a check in with the season and the shows I’m watching. I’ll do another one in three weeks right before the shows enter their final quarter.

As usual, I’ve found some great posts from the community to share. Hopefully you find something fun to read and as always if you have a post you’d like to give a shout out to send me a message via my contact or on Twitter.

Scott from Mechanical Anime Reviews pays tribute to Kyoto Animation as part of the OWLS tour with a discussion about the studio’s strengths leading in to a discussion about Tsurune. It is a lovely post to read and one that highlights what a studio can mean to someone as well as the surprise of a quiet sports anime that won over so many hearts.

Tsurune Episode 8 Minato

STARfisher discusses Vinland Saga and the loss of innocence. Now, I can’t watch Vinland Saga at the moment (no access) but it is a story I’ve been curious about and posts like this one just make me more curious as it feels like it would be interesting to get to know these characters. Anyway, if you are interested in the series or the characters, this post might be for you.

That Random Editor throws up a list of their top 5 OP’s for the Summer anime season. There’s a few of these top 5 and top 10 lists floating around over the last week and it is always interesting not just to see the order but the writer’s take on each of the OP’s and why they enjoyed it. Anyway, this list is great fun to read and has the OP’s embedded if you haven’t heard them yet.

Lumi discusses how anime has inspired him to try stuff. It is a fun post and one I’m sure most anime fans can relate to and given I read this post the morning after getting thoroughly destroyed on a volleyball court that I was only standing on because of an anime, I definitely got where this was coming from.

Sheena has an open letter to Ufotable focusing on episode 19 of Demon Slayer and just what the studio means to them. While my own experience watching Ufotable anime has been a bit more mixed, I really loved the passion and enthusiasm coming through in this letter and it is nice to see a studio getting recognition for their work.

Irina, on her blog, asks How Important Is Relatability in Anime. If you’ve ever reviewed an anime or a character and expressed that you found the characters ‘relatable’ this is a fun post to think about how and why we use the term and what meaning it has to us and to our readers. As always, Irina’s gotten a great conversation going so be sure to check out the post and the comments.

Anjalisk96 has a lovely review of Yuri on Ice and if you read the review and enjoy it the post then links to a post that breaks down their thoughts by episode. I love Yuri on Ice and I loved revisiting the series by reading this post. It made me want to go watch the series again (not that it takes much to convince me that Yuri on Ice is needed). Definitely fun to read.

The Breach has a post discussing the problems with remakes and reboots and looks at Disney, Superheroes and Anime examining reboots and remakes that have succeeded and failed and some of the reasons why. It’s a fun post to consider and well worth the read.

    1. I’ve been tweaking things for a few weeks (such as the fonts and the like) before the banner and other visual upgrade and I’m not just fixing all the stuff I broke a few weeks ago so there have been a few setting changes and reorganisations. I’m trying not to do any drastic alterations but my blog was in need of a bit of an update and I hadn’t really looked through my options in over a year so it was probably time to play a bit.

  1. I canโ€™t believe itsโ€™ the end of August myself either. Itโ€™s crazy how incredibly fast this year is passing. Just four months and we will be entering 2020. Itโ€™s been a rollercoaster ride for me this year, but Iโ€™m confident that the next four months will hopefully be pretty awesome ๐Ÿ˜Š
I just finished season 1 of March comes in Like a Lion, and was about to start with Tsurune today, until I ran across the orginal 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam series on Youtube. So…I got a little distracted and will watch that one first ๐Ÿ˜… Scott’s post for Tsurune was awesome, and I know Irina is a pretty big fan of the series as well, so I hope to get to it next month. Also…6 more followers! I’m telling you, you are going to hit 3000 just before the end of August. Hope you will have a good week! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    1. It is getting really close to the 3000.
Are you going to review March?
Tsurune was very nice calming anime. Very beautiful. Hopefully you enjoy it once you finish up with Gundam.

      1. I think itโ€™s awesome! 3000 followers, is simply put an amazing achievement. Iโ€™m truly happy for you!๐Ÿ˜Š
Yes I am, in fact I have already written the review for March, but I will be publishing it next month, as I have a few other posts left to be published this month (including a review for season 1 of Is it wrong…)
I’m looking forward to Tsurune, but have to admit having now seen 4 episodes of Gundam, I think I’m being infected with the Gundam virus….๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
