Here we go for another week. The poll for best anime of the season is hopping along and you have 6 days left to have your say so be sure to vote. In the meantime though, you can check out some of the great anime related posts from the community.
Posts from the Community
The Gaijin explains their love for Commander Erwin in Attack on Titan. There are definitely Attack on Titan spoilers here for people who aren’t up to date with the show, but for those who are and want to have a bit of a closer look at Erwin’s character arc here is a post for you. It is always great to see someone sharing their love for a character so this post is such a fun read.
Owen from Truly Trash Media shares a personal reflection on their time writing seasonal anime reviews and how it nearly killed their love of blogging. Personal posts from bloggers are great to read because even though their experience is not yours it gives you something to think about. And for those new to blogging and considering reviewing seasonal anime, this might give you a different view of it.
Irina brings us an incredibly discussion about Bakugou from My Hero Academia and why he isn’t a Mary Sue character. As usual Irina gives us an interesting perspective on a character and looks at what is lying beneath the surface and driving that character. I really enjoy reading these character pieces by Irina.
Leth has set themselves a challenge (or rather they are fulfilling a wager they made on twitter) by watching 40 terrible anime. To see the list and the conditions he’s set himself check out this post. Following this could be pretty entertaining and you never know, you might find a new terrible anime to check out (or even a couple of good ones).
Takuto takes on a review of Izetta: The Last Witch. With some distance and reflection, sometimes views on anime change, so how does the 2016 Izetta hold up? More importantly, it made an initial splash in the community that then petered out, so what went wrong in the story that had so many viewers either walking away or finding the overall package forgettable?
Black and Yellow Otaku Gamers has a post about anime that you can enjoy from episode one (so forget the three episode test). It is a nice run down of anime that have very compelling first episodes and is just fun to read. Be sure to check it out if you missed it last week.
Yomu explains why they didn’t like “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime“. While they admit part of the problem came from expecting something different to what they got, Yomu raises some interesting points about plot and character. While that won’t stop those who loved Slime from loving it, it does explain why there are some viewers who found it a little less than compelling.
Then, because I like to attempt something resembling balance in this list, I came across Fireboy’s post on “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” and why it was actually better than it looks. This post gets into the visuals and tone of the anime and why that worked for so many viewers and provides a more positive take on Slime.
Pick of the Week
OwingMatt93 on the Backloggers wrote an incredible personal post in response to Irina’s post about blogging breaks: “A Letter To Irina’s Blogging Breaks Post“. It shares a single, personal experience and takes us inside the head and the emotions of someone going through the struggle of keeping a blog going. This is one for all bloggers and I’m very glad they shared this.
