Boogiepop wa Warawanai Episode 12 and 13 Review - Another arc closed, another slow build to very little, but at least this one seemed to be filling in a lot of the missing connections.

Boogiepop wa Warawanai Episode 11 Review - lots of talking in a hospital, and rat experimentation.

The End of the Imaginator and The Start Of A New Arc

Boogiepop wa Warawanai post title image

Boogiepop wa Warawanai episodes 9 and 10 wrap up the Imaginator arc and kick off the new story. However, as has become fairly customary we're left with more questions than answers and some fairly thin babble to try to close out one mystery. While there is a sense of forward momentum that was sadly lacking in the beginning, the overall experience of watching Boogiepop is still a pretty ordinary one.

Boogiepop wa Warawanai Episode 8 Review - After episodes of very little happening, this episode seemed to be in a rush to pack in a lot. That said, we don't seem all that much further along but at least while watching there was a sense of forward movement.

The Interesting Premise That Just Keeps Putting Me To Sleep

Boogiepop wa Warawanai Episode 7 Review - Well, conceptually this remains interesting and the execution remains incredibly dull. I actually did fall asleep during this episode and had to go back and watch again. As much as I'd love to know what is going on, I just find each and every character here completely flat.

Weak Introductions To Characters We’ll Never Know

Boogiepop wa Warawania Episode 5 review: While saying this is getting better is a positive, the problem is that even better there's still plenty of room for improvement. Shallow characterisation is making it difficult to care about any of the events unfolding and not caring is certainly death for a mystery.

The Sprouting of a New Imaginator in Boogiepop

Boogiepop wa Warawanai Episode 4 Review: And we are straight into another mystery that's somehow tied to the previous one (lot of babble about endings being beginnings, got it, moving on). There's some intriguing ideas here but the languid pace and general lack of excitement is really making it hard to engage.

Disorderly and Dull, Perhaps The Worst Things For A Story To Be

Boogiepop wa Warawanai post title image

When a writer chooses to tell a story out of sequence there really should be some kind of reason other than there was an absence of any other narrative hook. Despite the desperate attempt to grab the audience through narrative devices, Boogiepop has fallen pretty flat with its first arc.
