Review:
I know I’ve been running hot and cold on this series, but that is because there are some thing I really do love about it even while the overall plot is kind of just hanging there. That said, episode 7 gave me a lot of the things I like about Cardcaptor. We had magic, Sakura, Tomoyo and Syaoran together (without the other classmates), and we also had a card capture at the end of the episode.
The episode starts fairly benignly with Kero suggesting they test out the record card, and of course Tomoyo is needed for this given she’s the one usually doing the recording. It also requires a costume change and snacks so nothing unusual there, though the outfit this episode is gorgeous. Later Syaoran shows up and they sense a ‘wind’ that isn’t really a wind. And, for the first time this series, we get to see Syaoran use some magic (not that it has any impact whatsoever, it just looks cool and to be honest that is good enough).
Ultimately though, Sakura uses a bunch of her cards (showing off some abilities we hadn’t seen before) and then she talks to the new power and they become friends allowing her to capture it. And what do you know, it is flight. Which leads to a truly magical scene to finish on.
We may not have gotten any closer to figuring out Sakura’s dreams or why Eriol is talking with Syaoran and not Sakura or who the hooded figure is, but there wasn’t a lot to complain about with this episode. It was interesting enough, plenty of magic, and a new cool card that I can’t wait to see in action. Hopefully next week can also be fun.
