2019 saw a lot of series returning or continuing and for quite a number of these, having not finished prior seasons, or even started them, it meant I wasn’t able to watch the follow ups. That said, there were more than enough anime that I had watched getting follow up series or getting rebooted for me to look at which returning series was my favourite for 2019.

Best Continuing or Rebooted Anime of 2019
This was a genuinely hard choice as you don’t get 3 and 4 series into an anime that you aren’t genuinely attached to. That said, decisions needed to be made. Here are my nominees for best continuing or rebooted anime in 2019.
And the winner is…

Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2
This was an incredibly tight race between Attack on Titan and The Morose Mononokean. I’d love to say DanMachi was up there but season 2 just didn’t have the thrill factor of season 1. The Morose Mononokean on the other-hand did everything better in season 2 bringing us some fantastic episodes and great plot and character development. It still wasn’t enough to rival the powerhouse that was Attack on Titan as it returned with a hard focus on progressing its plot in season 3 part 2.

This season of Titan gave us beautiful action, heart breaking decisions, characters who have finally grown up through their ordeals, and reveals…Oh so many reveals. It was kind of what viewers had been waiting for since season one ended really and it did it beautifully. This was the season that reignited my enthusiasm for Attack on Titan and now I’m definitely thinking I’ll be rewatching the whole series from start to finish once it is of course concluded.

Chihayafuru hands down, no contest.
AOT S3 was pretty damn good tho.
2019 had a lot of sequels and reboots, didn’t it? Mine would probably be Mob Psycho 100: that was just an awesome season, giving us more background on Reigen, and showing us the dangers of provocation, when you’re used to keeping it all in (which has always been a theme but never as much as this season.)
But I have to admit, Fruits Basket is hard on MP100’s heels. As a remake, it was so much better than I expected it to be after the previews. (I doubted the character designs would work with the more whimsical moments; I needn’t have worried.)
I’m very excited for more of Fruits Basket in 2020.
As am I. We’re now in unfamiliar terrain for me (this is about where the first adaption ended, I think?)
Agreed. I did, after the original clearly wasn’t going to be continued, skim read the manga just to find out a few things but I really want to experience the story in detail in anime. While I know some of what is coming it is a pretty vague picture at this point.
Is it weird that I loved Attack on Titan season 3 but didn’t care at all for seasons 1 and 2? I’m not sure why I watched it all but I’m glad I did 😛
Season 3 was definitely a great addition to the franchise. I loved the start of season one but found the second half started to drag. Season two did nothing for me and I was ready to be done with the series but season three hooked me right back in and I loved it. Solid season.
The best part of season 3 was definitely Historia. She’s a (literal) queen! I really hope they bring back Ymir cause I thought they had great chemistry together
