ACCA Episode 1 + 2

ACCA Overview:

Jean works as the vice-chairman of the inspection department of ACCA which overseas thirteen autonomous districts. Other than that I get that there’s a lot of intrigue going on.

Review ACCA Episode 1:

The first minute of this show was kind of flat and then we went into the opening. The song is kind of intriguing and while the visuals aren’t impressive by any means there are some interesting images in the opening sequence. Then the story kind of got moving.

Jean is a very laid back character but you couldn’t really describe him as dull. He isn’t an over the top genius but he’s observant and clever. At the moment I haven’t actually remembered a single other character’s name but there’s a lot of characters and while their names aren’t overly memorable their role in the story in relation to Jean is fairly clearly established.

This one looks like it is going to take its time to build its world and story but what it has shown us is interesting in its own way. Though, if you don’t like watching characters at work or sitting around having slow conversations you probably won’t find much in this first episode to enjoy. Unless you happen to like watching a character smoke. A lot.

The final point from episode 1 is that the animation isn’t the smoothest and characters looks a bit strange when walking. By the end of the episode I’d kind of gotten used to it but for the first five or ten minutes it was a little distracting.

Review ACCA Episode 2:

If you are looking for something that is moving quickly and has good action, ACCA is not going to be your choice. However, if you aren’t minding a dialogue heavy, slow moving story that seems to be taking its time drawing you into a world of rumours, plots and spies, then you might just enjoy this.

Jean remains a laid-back character but we start seeing a little bit more of who he is this week and then of course the series is making us wonder whether or not he actually is involved in anything or whether this is all just a big red-herring.

The introduction of the friend from high school was interesting (as was the reveal at the end though you kind of figured that was coming about midway through) and the lighter business from episode 1 was resovlved without going down the path expected (although it first hinted it was going to). Overall, I’m really enjoying just following along with Jean and learning about this world though I kind of get it if other people are finding the non-events so far a little dull.

  1. I’d say that this is the show I’m interested most this season though as always, it’ll be a while before I get to it. Looking forward to your thoughts on it.

  2. Even though I’m enjoying this series a lot right now, that’s fair criticism of what we’ve been given so far. I certainly know /someone/ who is finding it difficult to maintain interest.

  3. I don’t think ACCA, overall, has a slow pacing: the soundtrack makes the flow of the story engaging and rhythmic instead of the droning and dialogue-heavy pacing the skeleton of this show might have. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
