Here’s Day 17 and well I’m struggling with this one. Favourite comedy anime. While there’s a couple of comedy anime I’ve liked I don’t really have a favourite given comedy is not exactly a favourite genre of mine. There’s probably a handful comedy anime that really come to mind that I’ve really enjoyed the comedy of rather than enjoying them despite the comedy.
The Devil is a Par Timer is probably the first one that springs to mind. I found the basic concept of the show hilarious. And while the joke did wear a little thin toward the end of the season, I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a continuation of this anime as I kind of want to know what the characters get up to next. Plus, there are some seriously dramatic moments in amongst the comedy.
Noragami is another anime I really liked the humour but again, the focus shifts from the comedic to the dramatic so it wouldn’t really be right to call it a comedy anime.
In terms of just comedy I’d have to go with Acchi Kocchi. It’s a weird school comedy that is told in half episode snippets with a basic set up and punch line. Some of the stories are total misses but some are laugh out loud funny and the characters are suitably zany. Okay, maybe I was just in a weird mood the first time I watched it but for whatever reason this show appealed so whenever I want to watch something just for the sake of a laugh this one comes around more often than not.
Okay, what is your favourite comedy anime.
While KonoSuba had me laughed out loud, it’s Gintama that have me busting my guts lol
Well, if we skip all these cases “story about a girl who’s going to die soon + comedy” (sometimes it looks like the first thing every writer thinks of is how to put some jokes into any anime, because “everybody likes jokes”) there are still plenty of decent representatives: Excel Saga, FLCL, Pani Poni Dash, Cromartie!, Azumanga Daio!, K-ON, Ping Pong Club, Nichijou… First three are my favourites, but all others are great too.
Hmmm, maybe Sgt. Frog — NOT the dub.
I kinda agree with your selection of “Devil is a part timer” and I seriously would love it if they get another season. Noragami gets a little too serious as the story progresses so yeah, maybe Yato could be better off as a goofy character. Well, I think I have said this many times but what’s the harm in repeating? I love Nichijou and Daily life of High School boys. You should give it a try too!
I did try Daily Life of High School Boys at some point and think I made it to episode 2 or 3. It just didn’t do much for me. Nichijou comes up a lot though so I will have to try it at some point, though given the genre I really need to be in the right mood before starting that.
If you didn’t find Daily lives of High School Boys that much then Nichijou might meet the same fate. Although it is way more bizarre than the other comedy series out there, it still doesn’t follows a definite story and just randomly selects some events. Well, let’s leave the criticism until you actually watch it.
While I really enjoyed Nanbaka, I have to go with Hetalia, love those stupid country 😂
As you know I am not a huge fan of comedy either, but there is actually one comedy that I really enjoyed and that is the classic Urusei Yatsura. That one really has given me tears in my eyes at certain scenes, and even though it is very old, it is still a lot of fun abd recommended. Besides that, I pretty much avoid comedy to be honest 😊
I avoid straight comedy as well so it makes this one a hard category to pick. It isn’t that I dislike jokes but more I prefer the humour of something to be embedded in a deeper storyline rather than just existing for the sake of a laugh.
Absolutely agree with you. I do like jokes when they are part of a movie or series but are not the main focus for it. To date there are only two all out comedy series that I enjoyed. One is Friends, the other is The Big Bang Theory. Otherwise I usually pass on comedy 😊
