In Case You Missed It

Another week done and dusted and we’re getting closer to the end of the year (not that I’m looking forward to that… tearing off the page of my countdown until my working year is complete). A few changes this week in that I dropped a couple of shows from my watch list and also really struggled to find the time to comment on many other blogs. Things are a little hectic at work and after several fairly long days and additional meetings, my energy levels kind of crashed.

That said, next week is looking just as busy but for different reasons. I’m actually getting to travel to a convention (not a strictly anime convention but there will be anime related material in amongst a whole bunch of other stuff). Normally, I can’t because of work, but I was approved for travel leave so off I go. Next weekend I’m probably going to be offline more than on as I’m going to be actually out in the real world for a bit. That also means I’ll be travelling to and from the location on the Friday and Monday, so expect I’ll not really have the chance to visit as many blogs. Still, I’m really excited and hopefully I’ll get some great pictures to share.

In the meantime, here are some great posts from around the aniblogging community from last week. As always, feel free to give a shout out to someone if they wrote a great post that I missed in the comments below.

Edgy Anime Teen get’s their edge on, and get’s a little philosophical, and looks at why people are wrong about Goblin Slayer. The post is very much one written from a personal point of view and seems to sway back and forth a little but it most definitely has some fairly solid points and gives the reader a lot to consider. Well worth checking out if you are in the mood to reflect for a little.

Winter Reverie gives us a list (I love lists). Not just any list, but a list of their top ten favourite Bleach Openings (I love Bleach openings). Okay, I was definitely happily tripping along with a lot of the songs embedded in this post and any Bleach fan will joyously read this post even if they disagree with the order.

Irina brings us a beautiful post perfect for Halloween focusing on Madame Red from Black Butler (spoilers in the post if you never watched the anime). It is a great tribute to a fantastic character and a lot of fun to read (also some great pictures of some great cosplay). Definitely worth checking out.

Bloom Review had a mythology special for October and focused on the Gashadokuro in this fairly interesting read. If you wanted to know more about traditional Japanese spirits then this post is quite a fun read and very informative.

Average Joe shared a list of top 10 creepy Doctor Who villains. There’s definitely going to be some of your favourites on this list between the main list and the honourable mentions, and it was just plain fun going back and remembering all the cool monsters and villains the doctor has faced off against.

Scott from Mechanical Anime Reviews looks at monstrous traits and humans being affected by monstrous traits and ‘monsters’ being affected by human traits. Its an interesting post looking at three anime that at various points blur the lines and question what it means to be human. Great read.

DaLadyBugMan looks at hyper-reality in Girls’ Last Tour and it is a really great post to read as it looks at the questions raised and the observations made my Chito and Yuuri during their travels. It was really fun revisiting this anime through this post and hopefully you will enjoy it.

Pick of the Week

Seasonal Prattle takes on SSSS.Gridman and discusses how it is visually competent but honestly underwhelming. If I was brutally honest, I would admit I didn’t give SSSS.Gridman much of a chance. I have a well established pattern of not really liking Trigger anime (there’s one or two exceptions) however I genuinely don’t like the way the studio tells stories more often than not (though they are usually quite visually interesting). So it is interesting to read reviews and discussions on this anime now that it is a few episodes in and some people have found it thoroughly entertaining and others, such as Prattle, have found it pretty flat. It will be interesting to see final verdicts on this one as I was going to see if it was worth picking up once the season ended.

My Stuff

And that was my week, in case you missed it.

Thanks for reading.

      1. The GUI did everything it needed to, and looked the way I wanted. But without getting into technical jargon, the actual code was horrible, and I’ll be lucky to get an 85%, if I’m being honest. I would need at least another day, maybe two, to make the code well-designed…
I was up till 1:00 AM just making it functional. I have 3 classes today, so I definitely needed at least 4 hours of sleep! Long story short- I’m getting a lot of firsthand experience with coding!

    1. I hope so too. I’m meeting up with family on one day and friends another and I’m just hoping to enjoy being around so much geek culture for a weekend. Really looking forward to it.

  1. Earlier this week: posts about slimes, gets relatively lots of likes, ego grows! 😀
Now: sees slime post is not included. Ego shrinks. 😦
    LOL 😉

I love all your picks for this round up! 🙂

    1. I really did enjoy your slime post however it came out on a day when I was rushed and I tend to record less posts when I’m rushing and later when I think back on what I read I tend to forget if I haven’t recorded it at the time. Thanks for reminding me and if you throw a link in a reply hopefully people will see it, because it was a great read.

  2. I can definitely relate with you on tings being hectic at work right now. As you might have noticed my commenting has also been less frequent, as my energy level is also not what it’s supposed to be right now. I hope things will go better for you soon.
As for the convention: awesome! I hope you are going to have a great time, and as I mentioned before it’s great that you got some time off to enjoy it. Look forward to hearing everything about the convention and of course seeing the pictures. But above all: have fun! 😊😊

    1. It is such a terrible time for me to not be at work and it made a hectic couple of weeks even worse, but I’m really looking forward to going to the convention.
Sorry to hear you are still having a bit of a busy time. Make sure you take care of yourself.

      1. Well, you definitely should. You are working hard enough, and sometimes it’s just good to take a break. Going to a convention is perfect for that😊
I will try, in the 22 years that I now work for my company, it has never been as crazy as this. But, I will try to hang in there 😊
You take care too: and as I said have fun at that convention! 😊

        1. I would love to see the list of slasher villains as well (though if you are having trouble coming up with ten maybe you could expand the list to include horror villains in general).
