In Case You Missed It

Disaster of a week in the real world and only marginally better blogging this week as I spent most of the week playing catch up after a start to the week that exhausted me because of work related issues. And given Sunday is my usual watch anime and write a lot of my posts for the week day, and this time I didn’t get to do any of that, I really did spend the week behind and work was still super busy. Then of course, I got the flu.

Still, I am not here to whinge, I am here to introduce my post round up from last week with some really fun blog posts I came across while visiting everyone’s blogs. As always, please feel free to give a shout-out to someone in the comments below if they have a post that you feel deserves some attention.

Death 3

Not anime related, but Two Happy Cats had an interview with Moral Anxiety Studios (Visual Novel developers). If you want to know more about this Indie studio then you should definitely check out this post.

Nefarious Reviews reviewed Black Butler and while they aren’t exactly fan-girling over it, they do outline some of the positive and negatives of the series (as well as agreeing with me that season 2 is rubbish – please note Irina). Basically if you are looking for a fairly balanced review of the show, this is one to check out. If you want to know why Black Butler is amazing check out my review, and if you want to know about the differences between BB1 and BB2 check out Irina and my debate on the topic.

The Little Anime Blog shares a review of Pokemon The Movie and while this isn’t something I’m look to watch, I enjoyed seeing their thoughts on it. Pokemon and anime fans should check this post out.

Scott from Mechanical Anime Reviews looks at the late Netflix release of Kakegurui and wonders why there was so much hype (a sentiment I’m sharing). Of course, the larger problem is that this show could have been released on Netflix back when it aired, or at the very least much sooner after.

Amiranda Reviews takes on Land of the Lustrous and gives readers who haven’t seen the show plenty of reasons why it is worth trying out. It was a show I really enjoyed last season and I really enjoyed this post as it reminded me of all the good things it did.

Takuto’s Anime Cafe has a look at the works of Makoto Shinkai and the themes built within each of them. Get ready for a fair read as this one is quite the post, but well worth the time.

For Valentine’s Day we have:

The Perfect Anime for Valentine’s Day from a Nerdy Perspective. Here’s a list of a range of romantic anime that you can enjoy during the week where romance is thrown in your face again and again.

The Lost Voice asks if Gosick is a Detective or Romance anime and they make a good case for it being more of a romance. So while this isn’t exactly a Valentine’s post, I felt it fit the theme.

Totally not a Valentine’s story, Nice Job Breaking it, Hero has a post looking at the problematic nature of Junjou Romantica (season 1). For a lot of people, this anime is an entry point to BL or Yaoi anime and yet there are definitely some issues with the series which this post neatly addresses. Warning, unhealthy relationships abound.

Thero had a very nice not anime related post on 5 Tragic Couples from Video Games. As the number one spot went to a couple that were very dear to me (and their ending broke my heart just a little bit) I really enjoyed this list and the couples on it.

Black and Yellow Otaku Gamers had a guide to Valentine’s chocolates and even a how to guide on how to make some very cute looking chocolates.

Kawaii Paper Pandas shares some of their favourite anime couples in honour of Valentine’s Day. There some great choices on the list and good fun to read.

Over on the Treasure Box we have some Romance Tropes being shared as well as some personal bits and pieces. This one has some great tropes and some great examples so if you just want to reminisce over some truly classic set ups in romances, this is a great post to read.

Pick of the Week

Cain S Latrani took on Yuri on Ice in a review this week and the result is a post I read multiple times just for the sheer joy of it. Whether you are a Yuri on Ice fan or not, this is a post that really captured the anime in question and does so with personality and charm. Well worth your time for a read. Plus, it’s a Yuri on Ice post.

My Stuff

This week was a bit of a mixed bag in terms of my being able to get stuff done, but ultimately it all kind of came together. My first audio blog came out for patrons this week and while it is definitely a test the water and get some feedback affair, it is hopefully a sign of things to come for the blog in the future.

I continued my episodic reviews and you can check out what you missed in my season overview post.

This week I caught up with Kino’s Journey and Code Realize for series reviews and reviewed the next Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash light novel. Top 5 Tuesday was all about cherry blossoms in anime and my feature this week reflected on why I am not particularly worried about running low on passion for anime.

Finally, inquiring minds want to know was actually fairly timely this week because I was asked for my thoughts on Kakegurui. Which, given I haven’t finished it and probably won’t, which means I won’t ever get to do a series review, gave me a chance o voice my thoughts on the very small amount of it I did watch. If you missed it, or if you have a question you’d like to ask, be sure to check out the post.

That was my week in case you missed it.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Ugh, we all have those weeks sometimes. Hope you’re at least recovering from the flu, and have better luck accomplishing everything that you want to get done this week.

Thanks for sharing our review, don’t much blame you for skipping out on that movie though. Spare yourself the stake through your child self’s heart of an English-speaking Pikachu 😆

    1. Thank you and I am getting better from the flu at least.
I enjoyed your review even though I had no intention of watching the movie and I’m still slightly terrified of ever hearing Pikachu speak so I will hopefully manage to continue to avoid that.

    1. No problem. I really enjoyed that post as it kind of helped me realise what part of my problem with that anime was when I tried to review it (not a well written review – actually probably one of my worst).

  4. Aww man…really sorry to hear that you had such a rough week. And just so you know: you have every right to whine, so never worry about that. Also don’t worry about playing catch up: everyone here knows how hard you work, it’s okay to at times take things slow, especially if the real world throws a wrench into things. Hopefully you will feel better soon, and I hope the upcoming week is going to be a lot better for you😊😊 Please take care, and as usual this was an awesome round up of posts!
