In Case You Missed It

Another week and another round up of anime related blog posts. These are posts I’ve come across over the last week that I found interesting and wanted to share, but as I can’t read or link to everything if you feel there’s a post out there that deserves some love please feel free to give it a shout out in the comments below. Particularly this week as I really haven’t had as much time for the blog as I would have liked.

Only a couple more days until the countdown reaches its conclusion. I wish I could say it was worth the wait but it probably wasn’t, however there will be a post out later this week with a special announcement.

Remy comes through with some excellent advice for anibloggers about being themselves and having opinions. It is definitely something to remember when writing content and when interacting with others and discussing their content. Great post to read.

Keiko’s Anime Blog discusses episode 3 of Kokkoku. I really enjoy episode reviews from Keiko as they are on point and make it clear what is working and what isn’t in a particular show and usually look at what is needed for the next episodes. Worth checking out if you are following the show or if you were thinking about checking the show out.

The Backloggers look at the first 2 episodes of Violet Evergarden and look at what has worked very well so far and what some of their worries might be for the future of the series. While this show isn’t available in Australia (or for a number of other regions) just yet, it has been fun seeing the community reaction to these early episodes. Looking forward to seeing what people think in a few more weeks.

Kapodaco also gives their early impressions of Violet Evergarden on the Visualist’s Veranda. This is one of the more level first impressions I’ve seen where it gives praise to some elements of the show but has some concerns about the plot going forward. A nice read about a series where a lot has already been said.

Lethargic Ramblings looks at the fun in grinding in JRPGs. So not an anime post but still a fun read and it reminded me of just how much fun some of those games were where I sank hours of my life looking for encounters and enemies to fight just to get a little bit more experience and maybe level up.

Anime Corps takes a look at Pop Team Epic and whether anime can be so bad they are good or whether bad anime is just bad anime in this editorial. An interesting read whether you like Pop Team Epic or think it is awful.

The Glorio Blog knew just what to do this season with so many cute shows: Hold a cute anime Battle Royale. This is round 2 where they briefly describe each of the shows and then select the one that is going to be dropped. This is quite a fun feature they’ve added and I am looking forward to seeing more.

Pick of the Week

Geek Out South West do a top 10 list each week (not always anime related – but always fun) that I love checking out and this week they counted down their top 10 shounen anime. These lists are great because they tell you a little bit of the reason for each placement, usually have a mini-poll midway through the list to get reader’s impressions and at the end let you vote for a future list topic. Well worth checking out if you haven’t.

My Stuff

If you are looking for my episode reviews from last week they are all linked in the season overview so be sure to check it out if you missed it.

This week I posted my Top 5 female characters of 2017 and the feature last week was all about how characters making wishes can help or hurt a narrative depending on how they are used (inspired of course by the end of Juni Taisen).

For reviews, this week I looked at Psycho Pass, the Netflix Godzilla movie, and I also took on the first volume of The Isolator and found it oddly compelling.

Also this week was the second post in the inquiring minds want to know series. If you missed it, be sure to check it out and if you have a question, be sure to let me know by answering the survey linked in the post.

That was my week in case you missed it.

Thanks for reading.

    1. I choose the pictures for this post each week by randomly selecting a previously reviewed series. Even I flinched when Hand Shakers came out of the random selection and then I had to try to find two pictures that didn’t have the word ‘mesh’ in them. That was an even bigger challenge.

  1. Thanks for putting together so many great links in a post, I enjoyed reading several of them. The viewpoint on blogging with genuine individual perspective is a good motivator for me. The link on grinding in JRPGs is quite relevant to me at the moment, I was recently listening to an entertaining podcast where two guys play through final fantasy I (spoiler: the go a little crazy) and I just started monster hunter which could be a huge time sink. I haven’t seen Netflix Godzilla, but I was impressed with the production quality / style of devilman cry baby – definitely not for the fainthearted though, castlevania seemed quite good too. I’m glad to see Netflix doing some good things, I was so annoyed by the Hollywood version of Ghost in the Shell, and saddened that Hollywood are planning to remake other anime classics.

  2. Nice recap. I read Remy’s article and he’s just spot on. To be honest, blogging on all 4 of my pages has helped me to be more assertive and honest with others online and in real life. It’s rekindled my passions for songwriting and avant-garde stuff with the Ospreyshire project and with anime and indie movies with Iridium Eye. I’m happy that people have been accepting of me on this blogging platform.
