In Case You Missed It

This week started fairly rough and I’m going to be super busy with real life and work related stuff for a few days but hopefully it won’t interfere with my posting schedule or with visiting the wonderful anime blogs I find each week. As always I have a collection of posts I found over the week that I just feel the need to share but if you have a post or read one that you’d like to give a shout out to, feel free to add it in the comments below.

Shameless self-promotion: As you all know I started a patreon site for my blog and am looking for patrons to support the expansion of 100 Word Anime. While there are some posts and reviews over there for non-patrons, next month I’m going to run a series of posts just for patrons. I have no intention of cutting any of the content I currently provide to everyone as that is the whole point of the blog, but I do want patrons to get something a little extra as a thank-you. Thanks to everyone who is supporting 100 Word Anime and I really hope that I can continue to improve the content available on the blog. End shameless self-promotion.

Cain S Latrani posted this brilliant (and slightly long) post comparing SAO to Log Horizon. As someone who completely agrees that SAO is not terrible and is actually quite decent, I loved reading this post and I strongly recommend reading it to anyone who has watched either anime.

Jill on Jill’s Writing’s on Anime shares a list of 6 Beautiful Anime. There’s quite a range of styles highlighted in her 6 choices and this was a fun post to read and to think about the look of various anime.

Another list post and Schizoidmouse is sharing their top 10 male characters from 2016 (with the promise of female characters Β to come). Their explanations make for great reading with this list (though they do have a few spoiler warnings if you haven’t watched the anime the characters are from).

Keiko’s Anime Blog counts down their top 10 Romance Anime (given it was Valentine’s Day this week this was one of several great romance themed lists).

Prattle looks at writer’s block when you are critiquing anime and like so many of their posts this one is full of great observations and advice. If you haven’t checked out Prattle’s blog I really recommend it. They share their thoughts on anime but also post a lot of very helpful advice for bloggers and reviewers.

In The Cubbyhole has finished their episodic viewing of Izetta: The Last Witch so you can check out all of their episode thoughts here. I love their points of interests on each episode at the end of their reviews.

Otaku Paradise shared a quick Β quiz to see if you can recognise some fairly iconic symbols from anime (apparently I can’t as I only got 60%). Only ten questions and this was a good bit of fun.

Laethas’ Anime Blog has a post on the Effects of Grief and Dealing with Loss in Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. It’s a great post (very detailed and spoiler filled but well worth reading). I really loved this anime and the way it dealt with grief compared to so many other anime, so I really recommend checking out this post on it.

Kurumi shares what makes Slice of Life special. I’m not going to lie, I’m not the biggest fan of slice of life anime but there are a number of anime that fall into this genre that have totally charmed me over the years, so I enjoyed reading their thoughts on what makes the genre work.

Animeindianphilosopher has a post about why Shiki is a Boring Tale of Vampires. I love Shiki (link to my review) and think it is highly entertaining, but Shiki is definitely one of those anime that people either love or hate (or feel really indifferent to because they just don’t care), so sharing a different view point.

That’s it for this week.
